A sitemap gives the spider a rapid guide to the structure of your site and what has changed since last time. SEO is connected to strong sales funnels and often shows a high return on investment (ROI). Choose your keywords. Make sure they have good volume, aren’t too difficult, and suit customer intent. The best keywords are ones that don’t have much competition. Try long-tail keywords — these are three- to six-word keywords that are extremely specific and tend to have less competition for them.

Backlinks (inbound links) affect rankings more than anything else

It’s easier to tweak stuff in Google Plus in order for them to get better social signals to integrate into their ranking factors. Google’s SEO Starter Guide states that, “If your URL contains relevant words, this provides users and search engines with more information about the page than an ID or oddly named parameter would.” In other words, including keywords – or at least clear and direct information – in your URL is a best practice.

Use Hashtags (Wisely) and Categorize Your Boards

When the Web first gained popularity, it became important for a business to have a website. As online activity became more prevalent, it became important for a business to include a domain name in advertising and other materials. Now things have shifted again, and it’s vital for a business to rank well in search results both for its brand name and for queries relevant to the business. Search engines were nothing new; the first one was Archie created back in 1990, and there had been more than a few created between then & when Google launched (most notably Yahoo!) Make sure every page of your site contains at least several hundred words of helpful, well-written, relevant content; and optimize all your title tags and meta descriptions while you're at it. In organic search, you don’t have to continually pay to be seen, and once you’ve reached the first page of Google (and you have quality content and a trustworthy site), you’ll often stick there for a long period of time (depending on the amount of competition).

Search Data as Economic Indicator

It has long been understood that Google’s ranking algorithm is complex (by design). When people conduct research, they want up-to-date, accurate information. That’s why it’s important to keep content updated. Recency is becoming an increasingly important ranking factor in Google’s search algorithm and for good reason—your audiences don’t want to waste time reading dated content. For many content marketers, organic traffic earned through SEO is like a holiday bonus: It’s cool if it happens, but no one is planning their monthly budget around it. We asked an SEO Specialist, Gaz Hall, for his thoughts on the matter: "Ensuring that your content is effective in connecting with the prospects searching for your products or services is crucial. Your web pages should be geared towards focusing on individual topics instead of individual keywords."

Because not all links are equal, you need to be very careful when you start a link building campaign

In order to get the authoritative links that Google respects and sustain your search rankings, you need to concentrate on getting contextual links (i.e., links surrounded by relevant content). Linking out is huge. Don't be a link hoard; you're going to create content, so use it to gain favor with other people. I'll go more into depth below with specific tactics on linking out, but in general, you only have something to gain when you’re linking out. Typically, people visit Google to help them solve a problem or they’re looking for a specific product. If a person goes looking for a company or product by name, Google will steer them towards what they’re looking for.
